Episode 31
How To Prioritise When Everything Feels Important
In this episode of Better Marketing, Marketing Magic in Minutes, I’m diving into the importance of prioritising your marketing when you’re running a service-based or professional service business.
It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed when everything seems urgent and every task feels like a priority. The truth is, if everything is a priority, then nothing really gets the attention it deserves. That’s why clarity is so essential because with clarity comes confidence, and with confidence comes results.
I’ll walk you through some simple frameworks that make it much easier to decide where to focus your time and energy. We’ll examine tools such as the Impact versus Effort matrix, the Urgent versus Important principle, and the Ideal Customer filter, all practical methods to help you identify what truly matters most.
By learning how to prioritise effectively, you’ll not only make your marketing more manageable, but you’ll also see better outcomes for your business overall.

Hi, I'm Tracy Heatley and I thank you for tuning in to this episode of the Better Marketing Podcast.
Speaker A:I'll be bringing you Marketing Magic in minutes.
Speaker A:This podcast is for service based and professional service business owners and entrepreneurs.
Speaker A:In this particular episode we'll be focusing on on how to prioritize when everything feels important.
Speaker A:If you've ever found yourself overwhelmed by to do lists, marketing plans and never ending ideas, then this one is for you.
Speaker A:As always, if you're new here, hello and welcome.
Speaker A:I'm a Chartered Marketer.
Speaker A:I'm a CIM Certified AI Marketing Specialist.
Speaker A:I'm a marketing consultant, mentor and trainer with over two decades of experience helping people just like you cut through the chaos and and get results with their marketing.
Speaker A:I'm not here to add to your play, I'm here to help you clear it.
Speaker A:So let's get started.
Speaker A:First of all, let's focus on why prioritising feels so hard.
Speaker A:We live in such a fast paced business world where it feels like you must do everything, be on every single platform, and sometimes that dilutes your focus.
Speaker A:When everything's a priority, nothing is.
Speaker A:And that's why clarity leads to confidence.
Speaker A:When I work with my clients, one of the first things I help them do is gain clarity.
Speaker A:We strip things back and we focus on what matters most.
Speaker A:A design agency client of mine had so many ideas floating around, loads going on in the head constantly, constantly coming up by ideas.
Speaker A:But then they couldn't implement anything properly.
Speaker A:So together we worked through my strategy cycle program.
Speaker A:We built a clear, focused marketing strategy.
Speaker A:And suddenly they knew what to say, when to say it, who to say it to, and how to get the results that they wanted from the marketing.
Speaker A:No more overwhelm, just consistent marketing, getting consistent results and building stronger relationships with the current client base as well.
Speaker A:Clarity leads to confidence and that confidence can then lead to exceptional results.
Speaker A:So let's focus on frameworks to help you focus.
Speaker A:Here's a quick prioritisation framework you can use right now.
Speaker A:Number one, Impact versus Effort matrix.
Speaker A:What will bring the highest reward for your least effort?
Speaker A:Number two, Urgent versus important.
Speaker A:Just because something is urgent doesn't mean it's important.
Speaker A:Tackle the high impact items first.
Speaker A:First put them top of the list.
Speaker A:And number three, your ideal customer filter.
Speaker A:If it won't help you attract, serve and retain your ideal customers, your dream clients, then it's not worth doing.
Speaker A:So here's some quick wins and some action steps for you.
Speaker A:Write down your current marketing to do list.
Speaker A:Use the three filters that I've given you in the prioritisation framework to prioritise each one, remove, delegate or delay anything that doesn't pass the test.
Speaker A:If they don't fit the criteria, pop them to one side for now or get rid of them completely and then choose one high impact task to complete today, just one.
Speaker A:And get that done.
Speaker A:And then one at a time.
Speaker A:Marketing isn't necessarily about doing more, it's about doing what works.
Speaker A:It's about doing it better.
Speaker A:Hence the name Better Marketing.
Speaker A:That's where the magic happens.
Speaker A:So just by taking these points on board and just taking action with those little steps will make a massive difference to 1 how you feel about it, 2 the results you're getting and 3 where your focus will go for future marketing.
